Ten years ago we brought our currant rural property with the view of raising stock and keeping horses. We'd both come from rural back grounds and my wife has been around horses all her life, the time was right in our lives to get back to working with animals.
My workshop overlooks the equestrian arena we built, and I watched over time as my wife tried different things to rake and groom the arena surface.
She hand raked the arena edges tiring to pull the product back that had accumulated at the boundaries, enabling pools of water to form during rain. At times I did help, that was hard work.
She even tried a piece of wood on the side of a pallet, trying to drag product back, it sort of worked but took ages. Paddock harrows were also used to groom the arena, with little effect.
I decided enough was enough, there had to be an easier way. I looked at what was on offer for New Zealand horse arenas, and I didn't see anything I thought would do what we wanted to do, or last the test of time, so we set about making our own.
And now we're here . . . . . . . .
